DRIVING WITH ISMID, One of the Prophetic Treatment Methods

Jabir (r.a) said:

I heard from the Messenger of Allah (pbuh):

"When you go to bed, continue to apply the ismid (called kohl) on your eyes. Because it cleans the eye, increases eyesight and grows hair (ie eyelashes)." (Ibn Majah, Medicine, 25)

In a narration from Ibn Abbas (r.a), the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:
"Continue to use Ismid, for it is the best of your lashes. It gives shine to the eyes (clears vision) and finishes the hair (eyelashes)." (Tirmidhi, Libas 23)

Today, we know that medicine for many diseases is produced from plants. In hadîth-i-sherîfs, there are many examples of the Prophet's medicine; however, it is necessary to express with regret that we, as Muslims, cannot say that we know the value of this very much, that we research these recommendations to the extent of today's possibilities and reveal the healing elements in them and present them to the benefit of people. In fact, our effort in this matter is at the same level as our effort to comply with other sunnahs.

It is mentioned in the hadiths that some of the substances recommended as medicine for various diseases are herbal substances, and that some medicines should be sought for diseases other than these. The name stone recommended by our Prophet (pbuh) for the eyes should also be considered in this context. Ismid is a riding stone. It is black in color and turns red. It is mentioned that the best is produced in Isfahan. It is an easy to shatter and bright stone. It is white silver in color when clean.

Some of the benefits of the name, which our Prophet (pbuh) recommended to use especially before going to bed, are listed as follows:

Smearing gives shine to the eye and allows the eye to see clearly.
It strengthens the optic nerves.
The application absorbs the tears and pus in the eye and removes the burr.
It re-finish the lashes and ensure their proliferation.
It strengthens the eye vessels, especially in the elderly and children.
It relieves headache when applied with thin liquid honey.
The kohl stone, which has a little musk in it, is the most beautiful kohl, especially for the elderly and those with weak eyes. (Ibn-i Qayyim, Medicine, p.459)
Since the main ingredient of the application is 'antimony', it makes the eyelashes black.
It keeps the heat rays coming from the sun due to its black color. Because it is also mentioned that the heat rays spread to the eye too much and damage the lens and retina in the eye.
Some of the provisions on driving are as follows:
It is makruh for men to pull their riding gear just to dress up.
Riding is taken before bedtime. Sliding made of "Ismid" stone is used as sliding.
On Fridays; smell, wash, etc. It is sunnah to wear a kohl, just as it is sunnah.
Drive; It is driven by pulling three times to the right, three times to the left (for an odd number in each pull) or three times to the right and two times to the left (for the total number to be odd).
Rubbing does not break the fast, even if its taste is felt in the throat or if the saliva is colored when spitting.
It is makruh to use a silver kohl.
